Dr Craig Alpert is a 3rd-Year cardiology fellow at the University of Michigan Health System who focuses on heart failure and palliative care in addition to medical education.  Originally from Pittsburgh, Craig attended Harvard College and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, where he remained to complete an internal medicine residency.  He participated in the Harvard-Macy Future Clinician Educators program in 2014 and was thrilled to return as a co-facilitator this year.  When not in the hospital, Craig enjoys traveling, spending time with family, cheering on his Steelers, and training a new golden retriever puppy named Maizey with his wife Aviva.

For hundreds of years, the stethoscope has forged a bond—literally and figuratively—between doctor and patient.  Nevertheless, this tool has landed on medicine’s “endangered species” list, increasingly marginalized in favor of more technologically advanced diagnostic testing that is more expensive and less personal.
