I am a general internist at Boston Medical Center. On the educational front, I am the Director of Curriculum and Evaluation as well as Clinical Skills development for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and at Boston University School of Medicine. I also organize faculty development activities for Dept of Medicine clinical teachers.

Scholarly Interest:
I aspire to become an excellent teacher and medical educator. I have completed a Masters in Medical Education from the University of Dundee, Scotland in 2005. Areas of special interest in medical education are bedside clinical teaching, evaluation, curriculum planning and “teaching the teachers”. RI I am currently working on implementing a curriculum that will include a variety of teaching methods as well as an ongoing assessment of clinical skills for our residency program, revising our written curriculum to make it competency based by rotation and designing a 360 degree assessment for residents.

Personal Background:
I was born and raised in Madras, now Chennai, in India. My parents are the most important role-models in my life. My mother and 3 aunts were teachers and this must have entered my blood through osmosis. I was educated at a convent school in Madras in Queen’s English, of course. Medicine was my only career choice, surprising because there were no doctors in my family. The combination of medicine and teaching is what I do for a living and cannot imagine doing anything else. I am justifiably proud of my professional training at some of the best institutions in India which makes me the skilled clinician I am reputed to be today. I am married to a brilliant physician who encourages me in all my professional aspirations. We have no children but life is exceedingly full and satisfying. My surrogate children are my students and residents and I take great pride in sculpting their lives in a small way. Despite the mad drivers, we both love Greater Boston and have lived here happily since 1996.
