Scholarly Interest:
Dr Lieff is the Director of Academic Leadership Development and the founding course director for the Education Scholars Program of the Centre for Faculty Development, Faculty of Medicine and the Associate Director of the Research, Innovation and Scholarship in Education (RISE) program of the Department of Psychiatry. Upon completing her fellowship training in geriatric psychiatry in 1985, she joined the UT Faculty of Medicine and Baycrest Centre and has been practicing and teaching since then. She completed her Masters of Education in higher education of health professionals at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education / University of Toronto in 2002 and her International Masters in Health Leadership at McGill University in 2008. She has been recognized for her excellence in teaching and educational program development by the UT Faculty of Medicine, the Association of Academic Psychiatry, the American Psychiatric Association and the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry. She has served on the boards of the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry, the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry (AAGP) and the Geriatric Mental Health Foundation. Dr. Lieff’s current area of scholarship is in the design and evaluation of development programs for academic leaders and educators in the health professions. Dr Lieff has presented and published on recruitment and competency in geriatric psychiatry, curriculum design in faculty development, education leadership mindsets and development needs for leaders in academic medicine.
Personal Background:
I have been married for 25 years and have 21 year old fraternal twin sons who are both having fun at universities out of town. My husband is also a psychiatrist who after having practiced in the community and academic worlds now works for an international pharmaceutical company doing clinical neuroscience research and loves every minute of it. My family enjoys skiing, snowboarding, canoeing and the outdoors. I am a speed walker who enjoys nia and pilates as well as spending time with friends and family.
